It is believed that “Every problem has a solution”. But how do we get down to solving a problem we have in front of us? The best way to solve a problem is by identifying the root cause for it and working towards eliminating the cause completely. This is just an excerpt from day to day life.

Similarly, in the context of Medical Sciences, it is very important to understand the term “Causality”. This term denotes the relationship between Cause and Effect. Every effect has a cause. It is very important for a medical practitioner to understand the cause behind an effect. The same cause may not always produce the same effect. However, the same effect never arises from the same cause.

In Homoeopathy, the approach towards treating an illness is considered to be very important. Here, the patient’s symptoms are considered in totality. The disposition to get a disease is given prime importance, than the disease itself. In Homoeopathy, mental or emotional dynamic of the patient is gauged by interacting with them to a great extent.

Unlike other therapeutic sciences like Allopath, Ayurveda, etc., Homeopathy is a science that does not depend on the diagnosis of the diseases. Here, the emphasis is on “Who” is suffering, rather than “What” he/she is suffering from. In other words, Homeopathy aims at treating the “Man in Disease” and not the “Disease in the Man”.

Homeopathy is often misinterpreted by common man, as being same as Psychoanalysis. However, this is not the case. In Homeopathy, the mental/emotional dynamic of the patient is first gauged by interacting with them to a great extent. Though the psychological insights may be revealed by doing this, this information is only used to suggest a Homeopathic remedy to the diseased and not to provide a psychoanalytical solution.

Cause in Homoeopathy is “Causation”, which are the factors responsible for the symptom produced in an individual patient. We know that in causation, location, sensation, modalities, and concomitants are the components of the symptom.

Our body, is sensitive to the external world and reacts to any stimuli on the basis of individual sensitivity and susceptibility, developed as a result of miasmatic background.

It is necessary for an Homoeopath to understand the nature of the exciting causes of the acute diseases, as well the underlying fundamental cause of long lasting diseases, which is usually due to chronic miasm.

First, we need to understand the cause or Aetiology (Psychological or Pathological). The treatment, further depends upon the clinical presentation of the patient. Here, the patient’s emotional response will also be evaluated. For all that, a detailed case taking is needed, which helps not only in selection of remedy, but also in individual management.
